Preparing the surface and priming are very important steps in the preparation process; primers have not stopped working but rather Americans have stopped using them. The paint manufacturers perform their marketing wisdom to sell what the consumers want to buy that is convenience and speed etc. However convenience and speed are not related to a long life paint job. ITS ALL IN THE PREP! The success of the pyramid structure is in the foundation or its base that supports what is placed overtop. Likewise a successful paint installation has more to with the preparation and the primer and less to do with the top coat. These are our basic primers that we use on most projects: Peel bonding primers--- used to mitigate chipping and peeling Stain killing/mildew alkyd primers--- used on shaded sides to create stain barrier and retards mildew. Alkyd primers are used for new woods and siding-- eliminates tannin bleed through on cedar and provides a moisture barrier.
