The Lost and Found Ministry started in 1987 when a lady by the name of Thea Gullings left funds to Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead MN, (www.trinitymhd.org) with the express purpose of "helping the chemically dependent and their families".

Starting with a house for a site, $1,000 in "seed" money, and 2 days a week staff time, the ministry now has a larger building, and full-time staff.

The philosophy of Lost and Found has been to not duplicate other CD programs. Rather, we have attempted to create helping programs that did not exist. The first major program was to develop an addiction library. We began collecting books, audio, and video tapes on addiction and other problem areas, such as abuse, marriage, parenting, spirituality, grief, etc. We now have in excess of $200,000 worth of information. The general public, schools, professionals, clergy, police departments, and any other persons seeking information use this information library.

The second major program is the intervention program. We are now about 90% successful on doing interventions.

Third is the development of Project Hope. Project Hope is a program to extend our addiction library, chemical dependency intervention, and 5th Step programs to Eastern North Dakota and Northwest Minnesota. We have placed 28 satellite libraries into rural communities. Our goal is to have no family further than 15-20 miles from help. Project Hope is made possible through a grant from Dakota Medical Foundation, Fargo, North Dakota.

And last our web site. Made possible with a grant from Fargo-Moorhead Area Foundation, Fargo, North Dakota.

The name Lost and Found was chosen in memory of Thea Gullings, who lost a son to alcoholism. The story of the Prodigal son ends my son was lost but now is found". We exist to make found those who are lost in chemical dependency.
