Our Unique Approach to Billing
Most lawyers charge an hourly fee for their services. They ask clients to deposit large sums of money into a trust account, bill for every tenth-of-an-hour of work performed by themselves, and their support staff, and ask clients to deposit more money into the trust account when funds get low. At the same time, many law firms require their attorneys to meet a billing quota.

The result? Lawyers who have an incentive to prolong a case, make things unnecessarily difficult and bill as much time as possible - and clients who have no idea how much it will cost for their matter to be concluded.

Our approach is different. Over the course of several years (and with rave reviews from our clients) our firm has shifted from the hourly billing model to a flat fee structure. Here's how it works:

A rate schedule has been established for all of the legal matters we handle. From the fee paid to the firm, we cover all incidental expenses, such as fax fees and copy costs.
For most situations, such as an uncontested divorce or post-decree motion, the fee is a one-time payment. The matter is handled from beginning to end for the fee paid to the firm.
For cases in which ongoing litigation is necessary (such a contested divorce), we break the matter down into distinct case segments. Clients pay a flat rate for each necessary segment of work. Work begins on each case segment once payment is received.

Clients know, in advance, exactly how much it will cost to move forward. No surprises.
No incentive for attorneys to bill hours for the sake of billing hours.
No geographic limitation in hiring our firm. Flat fees include travel time.
Matters brought to a conclusion as efficiently as possible.
Clients are never charged a minimum billable amount for an attorney simply touching their file.
Lawyers focused on doing good work for clients, rather than administrative burdens and firm quotas.
Clients can call, write, e-mail, or drop by as often as they wish - without receiving a bill.
Clients never receive a bill for incidental expenses.
Members of our firm collaborate with one another, sometimes going to court together, without clients being billed by two or three lawyers at the same time.
