Dr. Eugene R. Bonynge, Woodland Centers CEO starting in 1995, died suddenly and unexpectedly on January 24, 2010. On September 30, 2010, Gene was posthumously presented by the Minnesota Association of Community Mental Health Programs (MACMHP) at its Annual Conference with a Distinguished Career Award.
Gene earned his Bachelors degree at Sioux Falls College, his Masters degree at Western Michigan University, and his Ph.D. at the University of North Dakota. He practiced in behavioral healthcare starting in 1978 and was a licensed psychologist for 26 years.
Gene was passionate about behavioral health research, especially pertaining to psychological measurement, mental health crisis assessment and intervention, and rural mental health delivery. All told, he published 16 articles in peer reviewed journals.
Gene served as President of MACMHP in 1999 and 2007, and he participated as an active member of the PACT4 Families childrens collaborative, CARE collaborative, Southwest 18 Mental Health Initiative, Association of Ambulatory Behavioral Healthcare (AABH), and various other behavioral health organizations.
A non-profit organization, Woodland Centers focuses its efforts on providing comprehensive mental health services to meet varied community needs. We serve the counties of Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Lac qui Parle, Meeker, Renville, and Swift Counties of West Central Minnesota.
