1949 - 2009 Bringing Together People & Possibilities for 60 years
MSS has a 60-year history of service to the Twin Cities community. Since its nception in 1949 as United Cerebral Palsy of Saint Paul, we have been committed to supporting adults with disabilities and their families in meeting the challenges of vocational education, employment and community access.
We have grown over the years from a small storefront on Saint Paul’s east side to five locations, serving more than 500 individuals each year. We remain focused on meeting the individual needs and aspirations of each person we serve.
Our vision for the agency is to be the premier provider of vocational and day training services for adults with disabilities. To this end, we never stop looking for ways to improve the quality of our programs. Our customer service philosophy is to hire the most qualified and committed staff, listen closely to our stakeholders, and strive to always be one step ahead of your expectations.
MSS serves individuals with a wide range of disabilities. Our program are for adults only with the starting age of 18, we accommodate the needs of every age, including seniors. Our staff are trained and fully prepared to respond to the needs of our most fragile program participants and we maintain facilities designed to support those efforts. Our geographic reach covers the entire 7 county metro with licenced facilities in Hennepin, Ramsey and Dakota counties. Decisions about placement are made based on the personal choice of the client and care givers, appropriateness of the programming and funding source.
Vocational training and opportunity are driving concepts in all of our programming and as a result, more than 90% of the people we serve choose the work opportunities offered as part of their personal achievement plan, or in many cases as their focus. A commitment to assisting individuals, who have and continue to experience barriers to accessing employment opportunities and their communities, is the guiding principle for program design and implementation.
Midwest Special Services works diligently to provide a safe and welcoming environment to all who pass through our doors.
MSS is committed to the principle of Accessibility. The information contained on this website and all other MSS-produced publications and informational materials are available in alternative formats upon request.
