This is an update to a past articleabout snow-covered roofs. Thanks to Mother Nature, the snow cover on roofs is no longer an issue. Now it's time to check these roofs for any damage from the winter. Roof projects have already started in the area. Many homeowners have been approached with offers from companies or individuals to replace roofs. When hiring someone , make sure they have their own liability insurance in case there is an accident. Also, you should check experience and references to ensure the individuals are skilled and can complete the job effectively.

New regulations from the Minnesota Department of Health require contractors who are renovating properties built prior to 1978 to have a Renovators Remodelers Certification. This ensures the contractors have been trained to follow the correct procedures for abatement of lead-based paint. Contractors should either obtain a lead test to determine if the components involved in the renovation have lead, or they need to assume there is lead and follow all necessary procedures. Contractors will also be required to perform a lead clearance once the lead abatement has been completed.
