The Osakis Chamber of Commerce welcomes you to Osakis, 150 years strong and growing with a population of 1,610 residents located in both Douglas County and Todd County in west central Minnesota. Osakis is also located on the south end of Lake Osakis, a 6,300-acre fishing and recreation area with unique Indian history. Lake Osakis is rated as one of the premier fishing lakes in the state featuring walleye, northern, large and small mouth bass, crappie, sunfish and even state record bullheads. Lake Osakis is also an important destination for bird watchers who want to see western and red-necked grebes, the hard-to-find Clark's grebe, pelicans, black and Forster's terns, Franklin's gulls and a variety of herons, egrets and waterfowl.
Visitors and new residents to the area will find a variety of recreational opportunities, including resort lodging, gift and antique shops, restaurants and family attractions along with many community events and festivals that are held throughout the year. There are also many other interesting and essential businesses located within historic Osakis and the surrounding area. The Osakis community has excellent educational facilities including the Osakis Public Schools (Pre-12), St. Agnes Parochial School (Pre-6) and the Lakes Area Charter School. The Christian community includes five churches within the city of Osakis and four picturesque country churches surrounding Osakis. Medical and dental facilities are also a part of the Osakis community along with wonderful elderly facilities located within the Galeon campus featuring senior apartments, assisted living apartments, skilled care nursing home and a wellness center. Osakis also features the Richard Krogh Industrial Park for our local manufacturers and the Osakis Properties which consists of housing developments for all ages.
