Dutch Elm Disease
Dutch elm disease (DED) is caused by an aggressive fungus that kills elms regardless of their health. This disease kills thousands of elms in our communities each year and will remain active as long as there are susceptible elm trees.

This is a lethal disease that invades and disables the water-conducting system in oaks. Red oaks typically die within 4-6 weeks of initial symptom development, while white oaks may survive or take 1-6 months to defoliate and die.

Emerald Ash Borer
The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has killed millions of ash trees since its discovery in southeastern Michigan in 2002. Through a combination of natural spread and human activity it is now found in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Wisconsin, and now Minnesota, placing millions of additional ash trees at risk.
Dealing With Dead And Dying Ash Trees
Hundreds of thousands of ash trees will be removed as a result of the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive beetle that kills all native ash trees. Although some valuable trees can and will be saved it leaves us with a dilemma regarding what to do with all the removed trees.
