Standard Truck and Auto was started in 1923 as a blacksmith shop in St Paul, Minnesota. It was the sister shop of the original Standard Spring shop located in Minneapolis, Minnesota that had been operating since 1919.
After a short period of time, the owner of the two shops sold off the St. Paul location. Shortly thereafter, in 1929, the grandfather of Standards current owners (Scott & Joy Ostrom) went to work heating and hammering spring steel into leafs, bumpers, and anything else requiring some spring.
Grandpa Hilding eventually purchased the business in 1945. Scotts father Wes went to work at the shop, starting out as chief clean-up and delivery boy of course, and eventually owned it from the early 1970s until the late 1990s. Scott started out no differently, and in spite of a business skill or two (by the grace of God), is still considered the greatest clean-up kid the shop has ever seen (in his own mind of course).
The year 2005 started out with Standard having just relocated all operations to Roseville, Minnesota. Later in 2005, the original Standard Spring in Minneapolis closed their business doors and Standard Truck & Auto assumed their phone numbers. Therefore, after 80-plus years, there is once again only one Standard.
The idea of doing everything is intriguing, but impractical. Standard Truck's service to you is "frame down" or "chassis" work. Allow Standard Truck the honor of serving you with the gifts they have been given...
