Now for the crass commercialism! You send me your email address and I'll send you this year's copy of BOB'S BUCKS! They're good for up to 20% off anything in the shop, including sale items. With your BOB'S BUCKS you'll also receive some gift suggestions and personal recommendations sure to please any fly angler. Rest assured we don't sell our list to anybody, so you're not going to wind up getting offers from every Tom, Dick and Harry with a dubious product to sell.
Is is my regret to inform you that Tom Helgeson died last night, November 12th, finally succumbing to the cancer that struck him months ago. Tom was the publisher of Midwest Fly Fishing Magazine and the owner and host of Great Waters Fly Fishing Expo. He was a dedicated conservationist, a tireless advocate for the resource and doggedly went about the business of building and nurturing the fly fishing community in this part of the world. I do not expect to find anyone with Tom's vision and tenacity again in my lifetime. He will be sorely missed.

More Fly Fish U...
and this time the topic is fly tying. For over thirty years Bob Mitchell's Fly Shop has offered a six week fly tying course that was pretty much the gold standard in the area. If you wanted to learn tying you simply couldn't get a better experience than right here. Over the last several years we've noticed that people had a harder and harder time committing themselves to a six week course, so we've completely rewritten the fly tying curricula for beginning fly tiers. Now all beginning classes are three weeks long and specialize in one type of fly: streamers, nymphs or dry flies. You can take them in any order you wish since there is no longer an established sequence.
Beginning Fly Tying: Dry Flies. This three week, six hour class will cover almost all of the necessary techniques while you learn classic dries, hair wings and no hackle styles.
Beginning Fly Tying: Streamers. Besides the basic techniques students will learn to tie streamers, bucktails, buggers and muddlers in this three week, six hour course.
Beginning Fly Tying: Nymphs. In three weeks you'll cover all the immature forms of the major trout food insects plus learn all your basic techniques in this six hour course.
