Welcome to Nexen Group, Inc.™

Nexen Group, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of precision motion control components, power transmission and web tension control products for a wide array of industrial applications. Products include high precision linear and rotary systems, linear locking components, pneumatic brakes and clutches, torque limiters and electronic tension controls. Nexen customers span every industry including aerospace, robotics, machine tool, automotive, factory automation, packaging and material handling.

Tired of waiting for your clutches and brakes? Nexen not only has the best clutches and brakes in the industry but also the best lead times on standard product offerings. So if your production is down or are just looking for a better performing lower cost of ownership clutch or brake think Nexen!

Nexen brakes and clutches outperform and outlast the competition. Our rugged brakes and clutches deliver high torque, cycle rates, and life, withstanding heat, corrosion and are available in washdown versions. In most cases require significantly less energy to operate.

Upgraded pneumatic clutch brakes that can withstand washdown could eliminate bacteria build-up and reduce downtime for bakery and other food processing operations that require repetitive stop-start torque control.
US based Nexen said its latest range of Baking Industry Sanitation Standards Committee (BISSC) certified fully enclosed clutch brakes have a 30 per cent faster response time than electrically actuated models and can offer bakers a range of cost savings, particularly in terms of energy output and low maintenance requirements.

Hank Schilling, sales and marketing representative at Nexen told BakeryandSnacks.com that its air-engaged clutches and brakes give 40 per cent more dynamic torque, up to 60 per cent less energy consumption, 30 per cent more thermal horsepower, longer life and 80 per cent savings on repair costs compared to the electric version.
"Pneumatic actuation is well suited for repeatability and durability," he explained.
A tighter analysis of energy use in the supply chain is an essential step for any manufacturing business eager to save costs in energy. And while prices for oil, in particular, have plummeted from their highs of 2008, savings on energy bills are still a major food processing industry driver.

Clutch brakes are found in numerous applications including forming and frying systems, mixers, ovens, sheeters, meat processing and other applications, and can also, for example, control the output of dough from a hopper for uniform sizing. Moreover, they can also be used in a wide range of post-processing operations such as material handling, packaging and labeling.

Schilling said that Nexen's flange-mounted units come totally enclosed with sealed seams for washdown areas in bakery and food processing plants, while their nickel plating and stainless steel fasteners eliminate corrosion, even in harsh environments.
"The nickel-plated clutch/brakes include a NEMA standard 1.26.5 or IP 54 version for waterproof machines and a BISSC certified version, while a simple design with limited parts make these units easy to install and maintain," said Schilling.
The new BISSC certified clutch brakes, he continued, would suit medium to large scale bakery and food processing plants and are available globally.

The company stated that it can also provide bakers and other processor with high cycle rate applications an optional locking key for the clutch brakes.
"The new locking key feature virtually eliminates costly keyway damage, while providing unparalleled positive connection for maximum torque," said the supplier.
Nexen Group is a worldwide leader in pneumatic clutch/brakes and has offices and warehouses in Belgium, Japan, Australia and Mexico in addition to North America.

Nexen's RLSS Series Rod Locks deliver superior holding capabilities with extremely low backlash for demanding linear motion control applications where high accuracy is required. The spring-engaged, air released seriesavailable in a wide array of standard and custom sizesfeatures a wide clamping surface to ensure high holding forces even during power/pressure loss, providing reliable precision gripping of up to 5,026 pounds, depending on the model.
RLSS Rod Locks ensure accurate positioning and holding while other operations are performed. The rugged rod locks utilize numerous ball bearings to transfer the spring force onto the clamping collar, resulting in large clamping areas designed to provide a uniform force to the contact area on every engagement. This allows the lock to engage without any rod displacement. Additionally, a cam operated manual release feature mechanically disengages the rod lock with no special tools neededjust a simple turn of a hex screw using a standard wrench. The default-to-lock function springs back to the engaged position when released.
Available in ISO and NFPA sizes, robust Nexen RLSS Series Rod Locks are IP67 rated and withstand harsh industrial environments, including washdown applications. Flexible RLSS Series Rod Locks accept most standard accessories and provide an ideal solution for many applications including:

• Positioning equipment
Nexen Group, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of precision motion control solutions including linear drive systems, precision rotary indexers, linear locking components and power transmission products including spring set brakes, tooth clutches and torque limiters for a wide variety of automation applications in the Aerospace, Robotics, Machine Tool, Automotive, Packaging, Material Handling and Medical Industries.

Nexen 5H Series Tooth Clutches deliver fast, no-slip engagement for washdown applications where high torque is required. The completely enclosed tooth clutches provide positive torque transmission and feature a nickel-plated exterior and rotary seal to withstand wet, corrosive environments common to food and beverage processing applications.
The 5H Series Tooth Clutch models offer positive, single-position tooth interface for synchronized engagement and feature a torque range of 500 to 12,000 in.-lbs.with instantaneous torque at engagement up to 7,100 in.-lbs. The nickel-plated exterior and rotary seal meet NEMA 1.26.5 water protection standards.
Flexible 5H Series Tooth Clutches are compatible with timing belt sprockets, chain sprockets, belt pulleys or couplings for use in a broad range of applications. Tooth clutches can be simply flange- or pilot-mounted and are controlled with a 3-way, solenoid, pneumatic valve. Optional solid-lube and/or stainless steel bearings are available, as well as optional single- or double-flex, nickel-plated couplings with high-misalignment capabilities for in-line shaft connections.

Nexen announces their enhanced Roller Pinion System (RPS), providing high-accuracy linear positioning with zero backlash and simple installation in precision motion control applications. The RPS features an ISO 9409 flange mount pinion and pinion preloader that facilitate system integration and provide superior pinion preload and meshing geometry results. The system has high precision surfaces and an adjuster that allows the pinion to be easily moved up or down in the rackwhile maintaining proper pinion orientation to the rack. Pairing these simple integration tools with the RPS's high-efficiency design results in superior accuracy and longer life than that offered by ball screw, belt drive and linear motor systems.
The RPS surpasses traditional rack and pinion systems with a unique roller pinion/rack combination that can be easily adapted to any application. The pinion consists of bearing- supported rollers that engage a unique tooth profile. Two or more rollers connect with the rack teeth in opposition at all times, eliminating backlash. The RPS rollers approach the tooth face in a tangent path and then smoothly roll down the tooth face, greatly reducing noise levels associated with other linear motion systems, such as tooth slap or ball return noise. The low-friction design delivers more than 99% efficiency in converting rotary to linear motion, greatly reducing wear and providing longer service life at high speeds up to 11 m/sec (36.1 ft/sec). The RPS rack is available in standard segmented lengths of one meter and half meter increments and can be custom cut as required, allowing unlimited run lengths and easily accommodating diverse application requirements.
With a new line of integration solutions for ISO 9409 flanged gearheads, the innovative RPS system is now even easier to install in a broad range of linear motion applications. Flange mount pinions can be directly mounted to the gearhead, ensuring the highest degree of stiffness and accuracy, with no shaft or bushing required. Since the direct mount pinions rigidly secure close to the drive bearings, they ensure high performance. Additionally, the pre-loader system includes everything needed to properly integrate the RPS, regardless of the orientation.
