Inspired by a lifelong dream, visionary and current owner Diane J. Mattaini opened the doors of Trattoria da Vinci in the fall of 1999 with one main goal in mind. She wanted to offer her guests the opportunity to experience truly authentic Italian dining without ever leaving Minnesota .
Diane knew that in order to achieve her goal, she needed to serve Italian cuisine that was a notch above the rest, Italian cuisine that guests had never experienced outside of Italy, cuisine that would have them talking about it for weeks afterward. To accomplish this, she brought Executive Chef Angelo Volpicelli, a native of Rome , on board to create a masterpiece menu of authentic Italian fare.
After nearly 10 years at daVinci's, Chef Angelo has moved on leaving his son Daniele Volpicelli running the kitchen. Using cuisine concepts that he learned from his father, Daniele has created a new menu with dishes from throughout Italy . The new menu, which was launched January 18th 2010, is filled with hearty pastas, rich risottos, delicious meats, and succulent seafood entrees, as well as with an array of his treasured antipasto salads and desserts.
In addition to fine cuisine, Trattoria da Vinci also provides guests with an atmosphere that is both exciting and relaxing. The spacious interior of the restaurant radiates architectural uniqueness, with the grandeur of vaulted ceilings, exposed brick walls, and handcrafted wood floors. Candle lit tables and antique stone fountains provide additional ambiance, as does the live entertainment Friday and Saturday evenings. Copy’s of Leonardo da Vinci’s works add inspiration to the restaurant, both in renditions of early paintings, sculptures, and inventions, and in the unique mural that winds across the west wall of the restaurant.
