So, what's the story with Roscoe's Root Beer & Ribs anyway? It all started back in 1981. Steve "Roscoe" Ross and his wonderful wife Barbara decided to chase the "American Dream" of owning their own restaurant. They came across an old A&W Root Beer stand on 4th St SE Rochester, Minnesota.
Roscoe and Barbara decided the first thing to do was tear down the drive-in awning. They painted the restaurant bright orange and began their pursuit of the best BBQ in America. When they hit on the right sauce and perfect meat, they entered the National Rib cook off in Cleveland and interestingly enough, Roscoe's Root Beer & Ribs took 1st place Best Ribs.
Roscoe's popularity grew tremendously. Customers from throughout Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin flocked to this little restaurant to satisfy their hunger for great BBQ.
Wondering how his BBQ stacked up against some of the nations best "ribbers," Roscoe entered and won many nationally-recognized cook offs. Roscoe and Barbara always start with the best meat available on the market. Sure there are cheaper cuts of meat, but you won't find Roscoe serving them!
Roscoe's Root Beer & Ribs also is a very serious member of the community. Roscoe is always a willing participant of local fund raising for a variety of charities including Paws & Claws Animal Shelter, Junior achievement & possabilities.
What's the secret to his sauce, Roscoe says, "it's the honey from happy southeast Minnesota bees!"
If you're in Rochester sometime, stop by either location and say "Hi!" Chances are you'll see Roscoe and Barbara serving their award-winning BBQ and chatting with the customers!
