The Ely area is located in the Northeast region of Minnesota in the Superior National Forest, surrounded by vast areas of the Forest, hundreds of lakes and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area 1 million acres of wilderness. Deer, bear, moose and wildlife abound in Ely and the surrounding areas. Ely is also the home of the International Wolf Center and the new North American Bear Center.

The Taconite trail can take you from Ely, all the way to Grand Rapids, MN and if you want to ride in an easterly direction there is the Tomahawk Trail which will lead you to the North Shore and Lake Superior.
